ABOUT MARIE

Marie Brown Berg is a Saskatoon based Yoga Teacher and iRest® Level 1 Yoga Nidra Meditation Teacher who first found Yoga in 1999 at the age of 18 when she attended a community class with her mother in California. The state of mindful awareness and inner quiet she experienced was life changing and since then she has devoted her time and energy to learning and sharing Yoga with others. Marie’s curiosity for Yoga lead her to travel throughout India in 2001 where she stayed in Buddhist Monasteries and traditional Yoga Ashrams to learn more about the practice.
Wanting to deeply understand classical Yoga techniques Marie stayed at the Sivinanda Vedanta Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas in 2005 where she completed a 200-hour teacher training and then spent the next 5 years returning to the ashram for month long residencies to complete a 300-hr Advanced Raja Yoga certification in the complete study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali under the guidance of Geshe Michael Roach of Tibetan Heart Yoga and Swami Swaroopananda.
With a deep love for Yoga, Marie has spent the last 20+ years studying and practicing under the guidance of master teachers including, Sharon Gannon & David Life (Jivamukti Yoga) and Father Joe Pereira (Iyengar Yoga) founder of the Kripa Foundation in Mumbai, India. After a 10-day vow of silence (Vipassana Meditation) in the tradition of Sayahyi U Ba Khin in Costa Rica she began to crave stillness, which lead her to then take a 30 hour Yin Yoga Foundations Certification with Joe Barnett and eventually find Restorative Yoga through the guidance of influential teachers like Patricia Dewar & Lia Pas.
In 2011 & 2016 Marie completed RELAX AND RENEW® Level 1 Restorative Yoga Training + RELAX AND RENEW® Level 2 Therapeutic Applications of Restorative Yoga Training with Judith Hanson Lasater Ph.D., P.T. In Dec 2019 Marie served as an assistant to Judith Hanson Lasater at RELAX AND RENEW® Level I training at The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachussetts.

In 2020 Marie became an iRest® Level 1 Yoga Nidra Meditation Teacher under the guidance of Dr. Richard Miller (clinical psychologist) and the iRest Institute (IRI) www.irest.org. She is deeply committed to serving the sacred practices of Yoga with integrity, to all those who want peace.
